Lake Tahoe
Great Summer fishing!
South Lake Tahoe -- Tahoe Sportfishing gave us this report: Fishing has been excellent this summer, with lots of Mackinaw and kokanee being caught. The mackinaw are averaging 3 to 6 lbs. with the largest caught in July 14 pounds! Kokanee are fat and sassy and running 12 to 14 inches. Both species caught at depths of 60 to 100 feet. Our total fish count for July was 2502 – 1636 mackinaw, 860 kokanee, 3 German brown trout and 3 rainbow trout. Fishing should even be better in August.
We got this report from Mike Nielsen: July into first week of August has been solid mackinaw fishing with mix of a good jig bite and Trolling action.
If we decide to troll there have been one of three choices. Go for action early and that has been providing fish across the south shore and east shore with average of 3-6 lb fish with counts of 5-8 fish landed early. Then we switch to jigging to complete trip.
The second trolling choice has been to use bait for action and we’re catching 4 -15 fish per trip averaging 2-9 lbs. The third choice is to target big fish and we have landed 14 big macks from 9-16 lbs in the last few weeks with 2-5 hookups a trip on the big boys.
