Bodega Bay/Tomales Bay Good King Salmon and Rock Cod fishing
Bodega Bay -- Salmon are biting well off Bodega Bay with limits reported in 60-200ft of water, plus strong lingcod and rockfish action on the reefs. Anglers are finding fish near Bird Rock, Elephant Rock, and Bodega Head, with bait and lures both producing depending on the day.
Salmon fishing has been hot around Bird Rock, Elephant Rock, and Bodega Head, with limits coming in 60-200ft of water. Most anglers are trolling 30-45ft down using watermelon flashers, blue hoochies, and anchovies. The bite can be fast early morning but slows by midday, and the fleet often moves north when it dies off.
The reefs and high spots around Bodega are producing fast limits of lingcod and rockfish, especially in 65-180ft of water. Sand dabs and swim baits are working well for lings, while rockfish are hitting flies tipped with squid. Some boats are even pulling limits in minutes on the deeper reefs like Rittenberg in 320ft.
2 Anglers out of Lawsons landing had a great time catching bonito on a trip in mid- September. They were trolling for bluefin when both rods went off and they were into a big group of bonito. They kept 10 between 8 and 12 pounds, and released at least that many. Mad Macks was the bait of choice.
