Delta Stripers on the bite!
The Striper bite is still going strong on the Sacramento/San Joaquin delta. Lots of schoolie size fish from 18-28 inches are beiing caught all over. Topwater, glides, and red craw chatterbait has been best, but many anglers are also doing well trolling.
Anglers are catching solid numbers of striped bass across the Delta, with many reporting 15-40 fish days. The bite has been best during tide changes, with fish holding in 1-10 feet of water. Chartreuse and white lures are working well, along with swimbaits, lipless crankbaits, and live bluegill. Most fish are in the 4-5 lb range, though 7-8 lb and even 14 lb stripers have been landed recently.
The key is often covering a lot of water to locate schools. Water temperatures are ranging from 49-78 degrees depending on the area. Visibility varies from 2-4 feet in the North Delta to stained or muddy in other sections. The fishing should just get better as the weather cools after this last heat wave.
